The CenTex IEC Story
United We Stand. Independent.
In August 1996, twelve Independent Electrical Contractors came together with a common vision: to recruit, educate, and train the next generation of skilled electricians; strengthen their businesses that make up the electrical construction industry; and provide a strong, independent alternative to organized labor.
Originally named the Independent Electrical Contractors of Austin, that vision was expanded later that year to became the foundation for what is now the Central Texas Chapter of the Independent Electrical Contractors Association (CenTex IEC). Over the past 30 years, the Chapter has remained dedicated to strengthening the electrical industry through workforce development, education, advocacy, and the continued success of its members.
What began with twelve contractors has grown into a thriving organization representing more than 175 contractor members, 60 associate members, including 17 platinum partners, 3 gold partners, 4 silver partners and 11 bronze partners with more than 1,100 apprentices currently enrolled in our apprenticeship training program.
But our growth has always been about much more than numbers. Our members built this chapter. It is a story of people, businesses, education, and an industry coming together with a shared purpose—to create opportunities, develop skilled professionals, support one another, and build a stronger future for the electrical industry.
Serving a Growing Region.
Today, the CenTex IEC Chapter serves a broad geographical area that includes:
Original Central Texas (10) Counties:
Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson.
Chapter territory expanded in early 1997 to the Heart of Texas (12) Counties:
Bell, Falls, Coryell, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, Limestone, Milam, Mills, San Saba and McLennan.
Chapter territory expanded in 2025 to the Permian Basin: (10)
Ector, Midland, Martin, Howard, Crane, Upton, Reeves, Andrews, Glasscock, and Pecos Counties.
Chapter territory expanded in 2026 to the Brazos Valley: (6)
Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington Counties.
Our reach continues to expand as the electrical industry grows throughout Texas.

From the twelve contractors who founded this Chapter in 1996 to the hundreds of apprentices training today, CenTex IEC has remained committed to investing in the people and programs that will shape the future of our industry.
Through our registered apprenticeship program, continuing education, professional code training, exam preparation, safety programs, networking opportunities, and industry partnerships, we provide our members and their employees with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to succeed.

IEC NATIONAL
Established in 1957, the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC National) is a national trade association for merit shop electrical and systems contractors. IEC believes in developing and fostering a stronger economy through the level of quality of services its members provide to the industry. Drawing from the dedication and desire of contractors in the independent sector, our country is able to benefit from a flexible array of services and competitive pricing which helps maintain an affordable level of costs on all levels of construction.
With almost 3,000 member companies in nearly 50 chapters throughout the USA, the association serves as the voice of the electrical and systems contracting industry on policies affecting its membership. IEC attempts to further the growth of the U.S. economy through skilled manpower and the principle of free enterprise.
