The job of an electrician requires a person to climb ladders, be in high or confined places, work outside in the elements (cold or hot weather), work around motorized "scissor" lifts, etc.

The apprenticeship program is a mandatory total of 576 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) before you can graduate.

The average starting wage for an apprentice electrician without knowledge of the electrical industry is $13.25 per hour, which is 50% of the baseline hourly Journeyman Electrician's wage. Apprentices will be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages, based on satisfactory performance in their on-the-job learning and in related classroom instruction. Earned wage increases of 5% are granted after every 1,000 hours of on-the-job learning and class semester (approximately every six months).
